*Austrian, c.1989, Glock 17 Gen 2 9mm Semi-Automatic Pistol, Matching Numbers, Early Glock 455 Magazine, EU/UK Deactivated, with Case & Accessories*

An original Austrian-made Glock 17 Generation 2 semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum, retaining matching serial number NL11728 to the slide and barrel and accompanied by its original Glock hard plastic carry case, instruction manual, cleaning rod, cleaning brush, magazine loading tool and original Glock Austria marked magazine.

The slide is marked “GLOCK 17 AUSTRIA 9x19” together with serial number NL11728 and Austrian Eagle “NPV” proof marks. The polymer frame is moulded “Made in Austria GLOCK Ges.m.b.H.” and additionally marked “US. Pat. 4,539,889,” referencing Gaston Glock’s early Safe Action and polymer-frame patent. The barrel hood bears the coded Austrian proof-date marking “EDR,” corresponding to proofing and manufacture in January 1989.

This example is a true early Generation 2 Glock 17, identifiable by its checkered front and rear grip straps, absence of finger grooves, and lack of an accessory rail. The supplied magazine is an original Glock Austria marked 17-round magazine with numbered witness holes and early “455” pattern floorplate, consistent with late-1980s to early-1990s Glock production.

The pistol has been deactivated to current EU/UK specification and is accompanied by Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House deactivation certificate no. 188210 dated 30/04/2025. Visible EU/GB deactivation marks are present to the frame. The barrel has been slotted and blocked in accordance with current regulations.

Approx. Measurements – Overall length: 20.2 cm. Barrel length: 11.4 cm (4.5 inches).

History Note:
Introduced by Glock Ges.m.b.H. of Austria in the early 1980s, the Glock 17 revolutionised modern service pistol design through its use of a lightweight polymer frame, striker-fired Safe Action mechanism, and high-capacity magazine system. Rapidly adopted by military, police, and security forces worldwide, the Glock 17 became one of the most influential combat pistols of the late 20th century.

This particular pistol was manufactured and proofed in January 1989, as indicated by the Austrian “EDR” proof-date code stamped to the barrel hood. It belongs to the important early Generation 2 production period introduced in late 1988, representing the first significant evolution from the original Glock 17 pattern. Characteristic Gen 2 features include the checkered grip straps and simplified frame profile without later finger grooves or accessory rail fittings.

The matching “NL” serial prefix aligns with Glock’s late-1980s two-letter production series used prior to the adoption of later three-letter serial configurations. The presence of the early patent-marked frame together with the original magazine further reinforces the pistol’s transitional late-1980s production characteristics. Early Austrian-produced Gen 2 Glock 17 pistols from this period are increasingly sought after by collectors due to their historical significance in the development of modern polymer-framed military and law-enforcement handguns.

*Condition*
Overall good condition for display, retaining the majority of its original factory finish throughout. The slide exhibits moderate handling and holster wear with scattered surface marks, rubbing to edges, and light finish thinning consistent with prior service or operational handling. The polymer frame remains structurally sound with general handling marks, scratches, and localized wear around the takedown and grip areas. Matching serial number NL11728 remains visible to both slide and barrel. Fixed combat sights remain fitted and intact. The magazine shows handling wear and surface marks consistent with age and use. Supplied with Glock hard carry case, instruction booklet, cleaning accessories and Birmingham Proof House EU/UK deactivation certificate dated 2025. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
