An original British Enfield No.2 Mk I top-break service revolver, manufactured at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield and dated 1934. This desirable early-production example retains the original exposed hammer and both single- and double-action operation, distinguishing it from the later wartime Mk I* and Mk I** variants which were modified to double-action-only specification.

Chambered for the British .38/200 (.38 S&W) service cartridge, the revolver retains matching serial number C6740 to the frame, cylinder and underside of the barrel. The frame is correctly marked ENFIELD / No.2 / MK I over the Crown and 1934 manufacture date, while the barrel is stamped CAL .38. Numerous original British military inspection and ownership marks remain throughout, including Broad Arrow government ownership marks, multiple Crown inspection stamps and the Enfield ED factory mark.

The cylinder is additionally marked SB.N143, an original Enfield factory steel batch identification mark, while the revolver retains its original chequered walnut grips and military lanyard ring.

Approximate Measurements: Barrel length: 5 inches (12.7 cm)

History Note:
The Enfield No.2 Mk I was officially adopted by the British Army in 1932 as the successor to the Webley Mk VI. Designed and manufactured at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield, it was chambered for the .38/200 cartridge, which offered reduced recoil and faster recovery between shots while remaining highly effective as a military service revolver. Throughout the Second World War it became the standard sidearm of British and Commonwealth officers, tank crews, military police, aircrew and numerous specialist units.

This revolver represents the scarce original Mk I pattern, retaining its exposed hammer and both single- and double-action capability. From 1938 onwards production was simplified to the Mk I* with a spurless hammer and double-action-only mechanism, and many earlier revolvers were subsequently converted during wartime repair programmes. Consequently, surviving unaltered pre-war Mk I revolvers are considerably less common than the later wartime variants and are particularly sought after by collectors.

*Condition*
Presented in very good original military condition with honest service wear throughout. The original finish displays attractive age-related thinning to the high points together with scattered handling marks and light surface freckling consistent with military service and long-term storage, while retaining an appealing original military patina.

The frame markings remain exceptionally crisp, including the ENFIELD / No.2 / MK I legend over the Crown and 1934 manufacture date. Matching serial number C6740 is present on the frame, cylinder and underside of the barrel. The barrel retains the CAL .38 calibre designation, while the cylinder is additionally stamped SB.N143, an original Enfield factory steel batch identification mark. Numerous Crown inspection stamps, Broad Arrow government ownership marks and the Enfield ED factory mark remain clearly visible throughout.

The original walnut grip panels retain their sharp chequering and smooth upper borders characteristic of early production examples, showing only moderate handling wear with no significant cracks or repairs. The military lanyard ring remains fitted to the butt.

Mechanically, the revolver retains excellent display functionality. The hammer cocks and holds correctly in single action, the revolver dry-fires, the double-action trigger rotates and indexes the cylinder correctly, and the top-break action opens and locks securely. These retained handling characteristics significantly enhance its appeal as a display and collector's piece. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the condition report.

Deactivation:
Deactivated to the current EU/UK specification and accompanied by its original Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House Deactivation Certificate, certificate reference CG191514, dated 19 January 2026. The certificate records the firearm as an Enfield Revolver, serial number C6740, calibre .38, with a 5-inch barrel and country of origin UK. Despite its current certified deactivation status, the revolver retains desirable old-specification handling characteristics, including a functioning top-break action, rotating cylinder, cocking hammer and dry-firing mechanism.
