An original Belgian FN Browning Hi-Power Mk II semi-automatic service pistol manufactured by Fabrique Nationale Herstal, retaining matching serial number A3968 to the frame, slide and barrel. Chambered for the 9×19mm NATO cartridge, this example represents the improved Mk II pattern introduced during the early 1980s and is offered complete with its original magazine, fifty inert 9×19mm cartridges, Doskocil storage case and Birmingham EU deactivation certificate.
The barrel is marked 'CAL. 9x19 NATO', while matching serial number A3968 appears on the frame, slide and barrel, confirming that the principal numbered components remain together. A small numeral '4' is also present as an internal FN production or inspection mark.
The right-hand side of the slide is crisply roll-marked:

The pistol retains numerous original Belgian proof and inspection marks, including the Lion over PV Liège smokeless proof, Crown over AC controller's inspection mark, the crowned intertwined LAC acceptance mark and an individual asterisk over E proof house inspector's stamp.
Finished in the correct military-style matte blue finish, the pistol is fitted with black chequered synthetic grip panels together with the enlarged ejection port, external extractor and ambidextrous thumb safety that distinguish the Mk II pattern from earlier Hi-Power variants.
The accompanying original magazine is marked GVB 804 85 on the base plate, with the suffix '85' generally accepted as indicating 1985 manufacture. It is correctly marked 'CALIBER 9x19 mm' on the body and represents an excellent period accompaniment to the pistol.
Also included is a Doskocil hard plastic storage box containing 50 inert 9×19mm cartridges, creating an attractive and complete display set.

History Note:
Designed by John Moses Browning and completed by Dieudonné Saive at Fabrique Nationale Herstal, the Browning Hi-Power entered production in 1935 and became one of the most influential military pistols of the twentieth century. Adopted by armed forces and police organisations in more than fifty countries, it remained in front-line service for decades and earned a reputation for reliability, excellent handling and high magazine capacity.
Introduced during the early 1980s, the Mk II incorporated several practical improvements over the original design, including an enlarged ejection port, external extractor, ambidextrous thumb safety, improved feed geometry and a durable matte service finish. Chambered for the standard NATO 9×19mm cartridge, the Mk II became widely adopted by military and law enforcement agencies throughout Europe and beyond.
Although the serial number carries an 'A' prefix, the pistol's physical characteristics provide the most reliable indication of its production period. The Mk II configuration, together with the original 1985-dated magazine and contemporary Belgian proof marks, places manufacture in approximately 1985.
*Condition*
Presented in very good overall condition with honest service wear consistent with military or police use. The original matte finish remains well preserved with light handling marks and minor edge wear, while all principal serial numbers, roll markings, proof marks and inspection stamps remain sharp and clearly legible. The synthetic grip panels are complete and free from cracks or repairs, and the original magazine remains in equally good condition. The accompanying tray of inert 9×19mm cartridges and Doskocil storage box complete an attractive display package. Please look at the photographs as they form part of the condition report.
Deactivation:
Deactivated by World Wide Arms Ltd and accompanied by Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House EU Deactivation Certificate No. 136140, certified on 27 June 2016. The certificate records the firearm as an FN Hi-Power semi-automatic pistol, calibre 9mm, serial number A3968, with a barrel length of 120mm. This desirable early EU-specification deactivation retains good handling characteristics, with the pistol cocking and dry firing.
