~ 1899 London Silver Decorative Presentation Bowl – Bucks Free Press ~
A nice decorative mid-sized silver bowl dating to 1899 with a memorial inscription from 1919.
The bowl is of circular form with a pedestal foot.
It has raised decoration of flowers and scrolls around the circumference and a crimped rim.
The bowl is engraved with an inscription reading “A Token Of Esteem And In Appreciation Of The Late Mr J.H.Butlers’s Many Years Proprietorship Of ‘The Bucks Free Press’ From The Employees June 1919”.
Although the piece was engraved in 1919 the bowl is actually hallmarked for 1899.
The full hallmarks are for silver, London, 1899 with a makers mark of ‘C&Sns’ for Robert James Chaplin & Sons.

The bowl has a diameter of 18cm (7 inches) and a height of 11.5cm (4 ½ inches).
It weighs 260g.
~ Condition ~
The bowl has a few minor knocks and light scratches and the odd spot of tarnish but overall is in a nice condition with no real damage.

The Bucks Free Press is a weekly local newspaper covering the area surrounding High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England.
It was first published on 19 December 1856 and is still running today.
