~ 18th Century Iron Mortar & Pestle Spoon ~
This is a cast iron apothecary mortar with iron pestle. It dates back to the 18th century. The mortar is marked with a digit ‘1’ to the front. Unusually, the pestle also serves as a measuring spoon.
~ Dimensions ~
The mortar is 4 inches (10cm) high with the lip diameter of 3.9 inches (9.7cm) and base diameter of 3 inches (7.6cm).
The pestle is 5 inches (12.5cm) long.
The total weight is 1.1 kg.
~ Condition ~
The set is in good condition with only the rusting of iron that comes with time and use. There are a couple of small nicks to the outside top edge, quite likely from time of casting.
