*Austro-Hungarian, 1908 Jubilee Cross Medal, Civil Service Issue Kaiser Franz Joseph I*
This is an authentic Austro-Hungarian 1908 Jubilee Cross. This striking piece of pre-World War I imperial history features the right-facing profile bust of Kaiser Franz Joseph I on the obverse, surrounded by the Latin inscription FRANC IOS I. The medal consists of a gilded bronze alloy cross intersecting a beautifully detailed, circular laurel wreath. It comes mounted on its traditional, solid red triangular fold ribbon, which identifies this specific award as the variant issued to civilian state officials and civil servants. The reverse side features the milestone imperial dates of his reign, 1848–1908.
History Note:
The Jubilee Cross was officially instituted on August 10, 1908, by Emperor Franz Joseph I to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of his ascension to the imperial throne. It was designed by the prominent court sculptor Professor Rudolf Marschall. The cross was widely distributed across the Austro-Hungarian Empire to reward loyal, long-standing service, with distinct ribbon variations separating military personnel, court society, and civilian state officials.
*Condition*
The medal body is in good vintage condition with clear, crisp details on the Emperor's profile and lettering. It shows an authentic, aged golden-bronze patina with minor superficial surface wear and light oxidation spots consistent with age. The original red trifold ribbon remains structurally intact with vibrant color, though it exhibits minor handling wear and light fading around the mounting points. The integrated suspension loop is secure and unaltered. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
