This is a Belgian FN Bolt Action Rifle in 7.62mm NATO calibre, it was based on based on the Mauser Gewehr 98. When the modernizing Belgian Army required a new service rifle all their own, they turned to the existing and proven German designs, bypassing any lengthy, and untimely costly, indigenous initiative in the process. The German design served as the basic framework for the Belgian offering which was slightly modified to suit Belgian military requirements. It was this rifle that turned out to be the very first successful firearm to be produced in number by Fabrique Nationale. Belgium manufactured these from 1932-1964 and supplied much of the world.

It is fitted with an adjustable rear sight and shrouded block with blade fore sight. It has a steel butt plate, bayonet bar & its sling swivels are fitted with sling. 5 round clip fed integral box magazine. The arrow shaped stamp on the barrel is the Perron proof mark - which was used from 1853 to indicate inspection or proof of breeching system. The inspection mark *F is the inspection mark for Alexandre Lambert who was active from 1927-1953.

*Condition*
Given its age and history this rifle is in excellent condition. It has been deactivated to old Spec and cocks and dry-fires. The rifle woodwork is in good condition given its age, free of cracks and splits but age related dents as expected for a rifle of this age. The metalwork is nice and clean. It does not have a sling. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
