The painting depicts a Blackburn Skua aircraft, as flown by Lt/Cdr Robin C.B. Trelawney, RN 776 Sqdn. A note on the reverse states that this was the pilot who flew and crashed this aircraft while taking out a gun emplacement. The piece is signed to the lower right by the artist.

It is signed on the mount by Lt Cdr. Trelawney.
