Description

A Hausser tinplate produced Long Range Gun with travelling bogie (Langrohrgeschutze mit Sattel-protze) Model Nr.726 in the original Elastolin & Hausser box. This model is a post war issue c1950.

The gun is scarce near impossible to find boxed.

This set is comprised of a gun mounted on a four wheel field carriage, painted in green post-war camouflage with a split trail, an elevating function, sprung breech and a four wheel travelling bogie. The wheels are double assembly, and all wheels have block tread rubber tyres marked "Hausser" & closed disc pattern wheel hubs.

~ Condition ~

The gun has some minor wear, including paint loss along one of the trail legs, but is in a generally excellent condition. The box has some wear along the edges, a pen title to the lid and a small tear to a couple of the sides.

~ Dimensions ~

The box is 16.3 inches (41.25cm) long, 5 inches (12.75cm) wide and 3.7 inches (9.5cm) high. The gun is 15.5 inches (59.25cm) long, 4.5 inches (11.5cm) wide and 3.5 inches (9cm) high.

~ General Information ~

Elastolin is a trademark used by the German company O&M Hausser (O&M Haußer) for the toy soldiers and other types of figures it manufactured from composite material and later from plastic. Elastolin composition figures are made from sawdust, a glue such as casein, and clay (kaolin) molded on a wire armature and hand painted at the factory. The technique was developed by the brothers Otto and Max Hausser in 1912.

Some collectors use the term Elastolin to refer to composite figures made by other companies, such as Lineol, as well as those made by Hausser, but this is akin to using the term "Ford" as a generic term for motor vehicles made by companies other than Ford. Hausser figures almost always have an oval base, and the name "Elastolin" is found on the underside of the base of almost all Elastolin figures.

Hausser stopped manufacturing figures from composite materials in 1969. Production of plastic figures continued through 1982. The company filed for bankruptcy in June 1983 and ceased production by the end of the year.
