Description

This is a Mameluke sword which is a style of weapon modelled after the scimitars carried by Egyptian soldiers who fought for Napoleon. During the French invasion of Egypt (1798), 100-200 Mamelukes were recruited by the French Army. They became Napoleon’s personal bodyguards, and fought at the Battle of Waterloo. This particular mameluke sword features the Queen Victoria Royal Cypher and retains some of its engravings on the blade.

*Condition*

The blade heavily pitted uniformly and darkened. The ivory grips have been lightly darkened and the acorn still attached. 1 of the ties is detached from the acorn. Its scabbard is evenly pitted and there us some movement when sheathed. Overall, the sword is very firm and strong and there is no play or movement in hilt.
