*British, 2nd Boer War, King's South Africa Medal 1901-02, Awarded to 3431 F.T Knight, Hampshire Reg, with Ribbon*
The King's South Africa Medal is a British campaign medal awarded to all British and Colonial military personnel who served in the Second Boer War in South Africa, and who were in the theatre on or after 1 January 1902 and who had completed 18 months service in the conflict prior to 1 June 1902.
Circular, silver campaign medal with, on the obverse, a profile head of King Edward VII with the Latin inscription, 'Edwardvs VII Rex Imperator' (Edward VII King Emperor). On the reverse, the figure of Britannia holding a Union Flag and laurel wreath, the words 'South Africa', marching troops and warships in the background. The recipient's name and unit is impressed on the rim - 3431 Knight Hampshire Reg. The medal is suspended on an orange, white and green striped ribbon.
The Hampshire Regiment was formed on 1st July 1881 when The 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot and The 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot were merged as part of the Childers reforms. The 2nd Hampshire formed part of the British reinforcements sent to South Africa in 1900.
