Description

*British, c.1930–1955, 1st Royal Dragoons 1902 Pattern Pair of Bi-Metal Collar Badges, Waterloo Eagle “105”*

A matched pair of British Army bi-metal collar badges of the 1st Royal Dragoons, each depicting the regiment’s famous captured Imperial Eagle above the plinth marked “105.” The badges are finished in gilt with a silvered wreath and base, and retain their original twin loop fittings to the reverse.

Approx. Measurements – 2.9 cm x 3.5 cm each.

History Note:
The design follows the 1902 pattern regimental badge, introduced after the South African War when British cavalry regiments standardised their insignia. The eagle over the number 105 commemorates the capture of the Imperial Eagle of the French 105th Regiment of the Line of Napoleon’s army by the 1st Royal Dragoons at the Battle of Waterloo, 1815, a distinction carried on the regiment’s badges until its amalgamation into The Blues and Royals in 1969.  This captured eagle became the enduring badge of the regiment and was worn on cap badges, collar badges, and other insignia throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

The 1st Royal Dragoons was one of the senior cavalry regiments of the British Army, with origins dating to the 17th century, and the badge remained in use until the regiment was amalgamated into The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons) in 1969.

*Condition*
Both badges in good overall condition with light service wear, minor rubbing to gilt and silver finish, and age-related patina. Both retain original loop fittings to the reverse. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
