Original Photograph of Interwar Submarine E51. This photograph originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007.

HMS E51 was a British E-class submarine, initially built by Yarrow, Scotstoun, but transferred to Scotts, Greenock, on 3 March 1915. Launched on 30 November 1916 and commissioned on 27 January 1917, she was sold for scrap on 13 October 1921.
E51 displaced 662 long tons surfaced and 807 long tons submerged, measuring 180 feet (55 m) in length with a beam of 22 feet 8.5 inches (6.92 m). Powered by diesel and electric motors, she reached 16 knots (30 km/h) surfaced and 10 knots (19 km/h) submerged, with a range of 3,255 miles (5,238 km) at 10 knots (19 km/h). Armed with a 12-pounder (76 mm) QF gun and five 18-inch (450 mm) torpedo tubes, she carried 10 torpedoes. E51 had a wireless system, a Fessenden oscillator, and a designed dive depth of 100 feet (30 m), though some E-class boats exceeded 200 feet (61 m).
