Original Photograph of HM Submarine C12. This photograph originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007. The photograph has "Pre 1914" written in pen on the reverse.

HMS C12 was a C-class submarine built for the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1908. Slightly improved from the B class, it measured 142 feet long, displaced 287 tons (surface), and had a crew of 16. Powered by a 600 bhp Vickers petrol engine (surface) and a 300 hp electric motor (submerged), it reached 12 knots on the surface and 7 knots underwater. Armed with two 18-inch torpedo tubes, it rarely carried reloads due to weight constraints.
While operating in the Humber Estuary, C12 collided with a destroyer on 6 October 1918 and sank. Salvaged and recommissioned, it was sold for scrap on 2 February 1920.
