Approximate Measurements: 79.7cm blade, 95.2cm overall
This 1897 Pattern sword is unmarked and doesn't carry a serial number, so is likely part of a bulk purchase for a military tailor, or government contract.
The 1897 pattern remains the current pattern of sword for Infantry Officers. The three-quarter basket hilt is pierced and etched with a scroll pattern that incorporates the royal cypher of the Queen Elizabeth II. The grip is in black fish-skin bound with silver-plated copper wire. It has short double fullers on each side (39cm long) of the proved blade short narrow fuller. The blade is unmarked.
It comes complete with a steel scabbard for full dress occasions.
*Condition*
This word and scabbard are in excellent condition, the blade is clean and unpitted, the fish skin grip is in good condition with some small signs of wear as well as some minor verdigris to some of the copper wire, the inside of the basket hilt is scratched. The dress scabbard fits well but is not snug, the scabbard is in good condition with some scuffing commensurate with service. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
