Description

*British, Webley & Scott Mk IV .38 6-Shot Revolver, Deactivated*

A Webley & Scott Mk IV revolver chambered in .38/200 (.38 S&W), serial number B62210, accompanied by its Birmingham Proof House deactivation certificate (dated 24/07/2007). Marked “MARK IV .38” on the frame and “WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD / MADE IN ENGLAND” on the barrel. The revolver also bears Birmingham Nitro Proof (BNP) stamps and calibre/pressure markings “.38 .767 3½ Tons.”

The revolver retains its original chequered black composite grips with Webley logo panels and lanyard ring. Action breaks open, cocks, and indexes smoothly to old-spec UK deactivation standards.

Historical Note
The Webley Mk IV was the standard British revolver chambered in .38/200 (.38 S&W), selected in the 1930s as a lighter and more manageable replacement for the larger .455 calibre service revolvers. During the Second World War, the Mk IV became the principal sidearm of the British and Commonwealth forces, issued to officers, NCOs, aircrew, and specialist troops. Its compact size and reliable break-top action with automatic ejection made it especially well-suited for combat and field use. Alongside wartime issue, the Mk IV also saw long service with military, police, and colonial forces worldwide, earning the nickname “the Webley .38.” Renowned for its strength and simplicity, it remains one of the most recognisable British service revolvers of the 20th century.

*Condition*
This example is in good condition, showing thinning of the blued finish on the cylinder and high points from service and handling, with all markings sharp and legible. Proof and pressure stamps remain clear. The grips are intact with minor wear but no cracks, retaining strong texture and bold Webley logos. Mechanically complete to old-spec deactivation, the revolver opens smoothly, with cylinder rotation and hammer/trigger functions retained. Supplied with Birmingham Proof House deactivation certificate. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
