A Welsh Guards Officer's ceremonial jacket. Red Melton wool jacket with black facings, gilt braid to collars, cuffs, epaulettes and rear, gilt Welsh Guards collar insignia and gold staybrite Welsh Guards buttons - Queens crown with "cymru am byth" around a leek - ('Wales for ever' - the motto of the Welsh Guards, formed in 1915). Welsh Guards bandmans large detachable swallow nests epaulettes, black with gold bullion embroidered, with white worsted embroidered Leek.

Approximate measurements: Back length 71cm. Shoulder to shoulder 40cm. Outside sleeve length 59cm.

14th Jan 2023, The Spectator ran an article "Will shoe-polishing be given the boot for good?" by Ysenda Maxtone Graham who writes "We must hope that the army maintains its shoe-polishing standards and thus keeps Cherry Blossom in business. Former Welsh Guards officer Mark Presland gave me a vivid description of the two-hour ‘shining parade’ he had to undergo at Brigade Squad at Pirbright. ‘Round and round in little circles on the shoe,’ he explained, ‘for hours, and you’d gradually build up a glass-like surface."
