*British, WW1, Framed Memorial Medal Collection of Lance Corporal William Robert Wood, Death Penny, Victory Medal, British War Medal*

Lance Corporal William Robert Wood, from Wigan, Lancashire, was born 1898 and died of his wounds, aged 20 on the 7, Apr 1918. His parents were John and Annie Wood. He served in the 1st/7th Battalion, Manchester Regiment in France and Flanders. Service number 377839.

Frame includes: Death Penny, Victory Medal, British War Medal and Mounted photograph.

Mounted photograph of William Wood in Uniform: 8.5cmx10.5cm
Death Penny: 12cm
Victory Medal: 3.4cm
British War Medal: 3.4cm

The WW1 Memorial Plaque, known as the Death Penny, was a large bronze medal awarded to the next of kin of fallen personnel like William Robert Wood. Designed by Carter Preston, it depicts Britannia, dolphins, and lions. The Victory Medal, was issued by all Allied nations, featuring Victory on the front and 'The Great War for Civilization 1914-1919' on the back. The British War Medal, instituted by King George V in 1919, commemorated the end of World War I. It features George V's effigy and St. George on horseback.

*Condition*
This poignant memorial is in excellent condition. The hanging wire needs fixing. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
