*British, WW1–WW2 Period, Hampshire Regiment Sweetheart Brooch, Gilt and Enamel Wreath with Lion Badge*
A British military sweetheart brooch in gilt brass, formed as the badge of the Hampshire Regiment, mounted on a horizontal pin bar. The badge consists of a laurel wreath enclosing the regimental lion, with red enamel rose below and a blue enamel scroll reading HAMPSHIRE. The brooch retains good original gilt finish with intact coloured enamels, and is fitted with a long pin fastening to the reverse. No maker’s marks visible.

History Note:
Sweetheart brooches were popular items during the First and Second World Wars, worn by wives, fiancées, and family members of serving soldiers as a sign of loyalty and remembrance. Many were privately purchased from jewellers rather than issued, which explains the absence of maker’s marks on numerous examples.
The design follows the cap badge of the Hampshire Regiment, an infantry regiment of the British Army with long service history from the 18th century through both World Wars. Brooches of this type were commonly produced in gilt brass or plated metal with enamel highlights, often mounted on a bar so they could be worn on civilian clothing.
*Condition*
Good overall condition for age. Gilt finish largely present with some wear and minor surface marks. Enamel to the red rose and blue scroll remains intact with light age-related wear. Reverse shows typical casting finish and soldered pin fittings. Clasp working correctly. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
