*British, WW2-c.1944, Webley & Scott Mk IV .38/200 Service Revolver, 5-Inch Barrel, War Finish, Matching Serial No. 129061, EU Deactivated*

An original Second World War Webley & Scott Mk IV .38/200 service revolver, manufactured in 1944 and bearing all matching serial numbers 129061. This desirable wartime example is fitted with the scarce 5-inch barrel and is correctly marked "MARK IV .38" on the left side of the frame. Chambered for the British military .38/200 (.38 S&W) cartridge, it retains the correct WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD manufacturer marking across the top strap together with clear Birmingham proof marks and British military inspection stamps.

The revolver is distinguished by the prominent "WAR FINISH" marking on the left side of the frame, identifying it as an emergency wartime production example manufactured under simplified finishing procedures introduced to accelerate output during the height of the Second World War. A British Broad Arrow ownership mark confirms official War Department acceptance into military service, while Crown-over-letter inspection stamps remain visible on the frame. Birmingham Nitro Proof (BNP) marks are present on both the frame and cylinder, reflecting its later commercial proofing following release from military service.

The 5-inch barrel is encountered less frequently than the standard 4-inch military model, making this a particularly desirable wartime configuration. the revolver has all matching numbers with the right hand side frame stamped "129061",  the cylinder is stamped "129061" and the underside of the barrel is similarly numbered "061", matching the final three digits of the frame serial number. It also retains its original black chequered Webley vulcanite grip panels, military hammer, fixed sights and original butt-mounted lanyard ring.

Approx. Measurements: Barrel length 5 inches (125 mm). Calibre .38/200 (.38 S&W).

History Note:
The Webley Mk IV was one of Britain's principal service revolvers during the Second World War, issued extensively to British and Commonwealth forces including officers, military police, aircrew, Home Guard units and specialist troops. Chambered for the .38/200 cartridge, it earned an outstanding reputation for strength, reliability and simplicity under combat conditions. This particular revolver can be confidently dated to 1944 by its factory serial number 129061, which falls within the documented mid-to-late 1944 production block recorded in surviving Webley & Scott manufacturing records.

Its wartime manufacture is further confirmed by the combination of original military features retained on the revolver. The prominent "WAR FINISH" marking identifies it as an emergency production example manufactured under simplified wartime finishing procedures introduced to accelerate output while maintaining full serviceability. The British Broad Arrow ownership stamp confirms official War Department acceptance into military service, while the original military inspection and proof marks remain clearly visible. Together, these features firmly place the revolver amongst the peak wartime production of 1944, when Webley was supplying large numbers of sidearms to British and Commonwealth forces engaged across multiple theatres of the Second World War.

*Condition*
Presented in very good overall wartime condition with honest service wear throughout. The original finish displays expected thinning and edge wear to the muzzle, frame and other high points consistent with military holster carry, together with light handling marks acquired over decades of use and storage. The original black Webley vulcanite grip panels remain particularly well preserved, retaining crisp moulded logos and sharp chequering with no significant chips or cracks. All principal markings remain clear and legible, including the WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD top-strap legend, MARK IV .38, WAR FINISH stamp, serial number 129061, British military ownership marks and Birmingham proof marks. The top-break action opens correctly, and the trigger rotates the cylinder and releases the hammer in double action. The hammer cannot be manually cocked in single action, in accordance with its current EU specification deactivation. Please refer to the photographs as they form part of the condition report.

Deactivation Certificate Details:
Deactivated to current EU/UK specification with accompanying Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House certificate No. 183887, dated 24 June 2024. The certificate records the revolver as a Webley revolver in .38 calibre, serial number 129061, with a 125 mm (5-inch) barrel. The revolver bears the corresponding Birmingham Proof House EU / GB / DA24 deactivation marks.
