*British, Post WW2, HM Submarine Alcide (P415) - Original Postcard*

Approximate Measurements: 17.3cm x 10.4cm

The unused postcard has the following text on the reverse: HM Submarine Alcide. Completed 1946. 1385/1620 tons. Six 21" bow tubes (two external). Four 21" Stern tubes (two external). One 4" gun. Copyright Royal Navy Submarine Museum.

This postcard originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007.

HMS Alcide (P415)
An Amphion-class submarine built by Vickers-Armstrongs and launched on 12 April 1945. In 1952, Alcide deployed to Canada for anti-submarine training with the Royal Canadian Navy. She later participated in Navy Days at Portsmouth in 1968.

Design
Displacement: 1,360 tonnes surfaced, 1,590 tonnes submerged.
Dimensions: 293.5 ft (length), 22.4 ft (beam), 18.1 ft (draught).
Propulsion: Two 2,150 hp diesel engines and four 625 hp electric motors powering twin shafts.
Speed: 18.5 knots surfaced, 8 knots submerged.
Range: Up to 15,200 nautical miles surfaced at 10 knots, 90 nautical miles submerged at 3 knots.
Armament: Ten 21-inch torpedo tubes (20 torpedoes), a QF 4-inch naval gun, Oerlikon 20 mm cannon, and a .303 Vickers machine gun.
Crew: 61 members.
