*British, WW2, MkII Steel Helmet, with Camouflage Scrim Net, Liner & Chin Strap, Dated 1943, Made by BCC – Briggs Motor Bodies., Size 11*
An original and complete British WWII MkII steel combat helmet, manufactured in 1943 by BMB (Briggs Motor Bodies), with its correct and wartime-dated liner by CCL (Charles Collett Ltd). This helmet features the correct non-magnetic steel rim introduced in 1938, confirming it as a true wartime MkII. The liner is clearly stamped “CCL 11 1943,” identifying both the manufacturer and the size (11), with the shell itself stamped “1943 BMB” and batch number “1170-1” (best guess) partially visible beneath the chinstrap lug.
The helmet is fitted with an original British camouflage setup, including a genuine WWII hessian scrim cover, dark green netting, and period jute strips in brown and green — classic elements seen on British and Commonwealth helmets during the Normandy invasion and subsequent campaigns. It retains its correct khaki elasticated chinstrap and cruciform pad liner with central securing bolt, all indicative of factory-fitted wartime assembly.
*Condition*
The helmet is in very good condition overall, with the shell retaining much of its original textured paint, showing age-appropriate scuffing and wear but no structural damage. The rim is firmly affixed and non-magnetic, as expected for wartime steel. The liner remains complete, with the size and date markings crisp and legible, and the webbing still flexible. The camouflage net and scrim are excellent period examples. Chinstrap is strong and functional, with no fraying. A well-preserved and authentic combat-worn MkII with excellent display and collector appeal. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
