*British, WW2, Royal Air Force RAF Sweetheart Brooch Badge, King’s Crown, Winged RAF Monogram*
A Second World War period Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch, featuring the classic RAF winged device with crowned monogram. These small personal badges were commonly purchased by serving personnel and given to wives, girlfriends, or family members to wear on civilian clothing as a token of service and affiliation.
The badge displays the stylised RAF monogram (“RAF”) surmounted by the King’s Crown, flanked by outstretched wings. The design mirrors the official RAF pilot’s wings motif, simplified for jewellery wear. The badge appears to be die-struck in gilt or brass-based metal with a lightly polished front and recessed detailing to the feathers and lettering.
The reverse retains its original brooch pin fitting, with a simple hinge and catch arrangement typical of wartime sweetheart jewellery. The construction and fastening style are consistent with British wartime production.

History Note:
Sweetheart brooches became extremely popular during the First and Second World Wars. Service personnel often purchased them privately from jewellers or military outfitters to send home as gifts. They allowed loved ones to display a visible connection to a serving member of the armed forces.
RAF examples often incorporated the winged motif or the RAF monogram beneath the crown, echoing the symbolism of RAF flying badges. The presence of the King’s Crown places this piece within the reign of King George VI (1937–1952), making it typical of Second World War era RAF sweetheart jewellery.

Good original condition overall with age-related wear and light patina to the gilt finish. Some rubbing to the high points of the wings and lettering consistent with age and handling.
