Description

*British, WWII, RAF Silver & Enamel Pilot's Wings Sweetheart Brooch*

A charming WWII RAF sweetheart brooch in silver and enamel – a classic wartime token of love and service.

A fine quality WWII period Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch, crafted in solid silver and decorated with bright enamel detail. The brooch takes the form of outstretched wings surmounted by the King’s Crown, centred by the "RAF" monogram within a laurel wreath. The wings are enamelled in a striking sky blue, with a deep cobalt blue ground to the monogram and red enamel crown highlights. The reverse is stamped "SILVER" and fitted with a period pin and clasp.

Size: 5.5cm wide x 2.1cm tall.

Historical Note:
Sweetheart brooches were widely produced during the First and Second World Wars, privately purchased by servicemen as gifts for wives, fiancées, mothers and sisters. They served as treasured keepsakes and tokens of love, worn proudly at home to show the service connection of a loved one. This example is typical of the higher-quality silver and enamel RAF designs produced in the 1940s, when air force service carried great prestige.

*Condition*
The brooch remains in good condition with bright enamel detail, though with some light wear and surface marks commensurate with age. The reverse shows natural patina and tarnishing to the silver. Pin and clasp present and functional. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
