A great bronze ships badge from USS Ajax that would have originally been fitted on the ships bridge.

The bronze plaque is in the form of a shield and is fitted to an oak mount.

The main figure is a comical depiction (his face being very 1940’s cartoon like) of the Greek warrior Ajax sat on the beach with a screwdriver repairing a ship.

The top left is punch stamped the letter ‘P’ and on the right the letter ‘L’.

The lower end of the badge reads ‘USS AJAX AR-6’.

~ Dimensions ~

The plaque measures 12 inches (3.5 cm) by is 9 ½ inches (24 cm).

It weighs 2.27 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The badge is in good condition. It appears to originally have been gilded and some of this finish has worn off. The mounting board has lost some of its varnish and the tips are worn.
