The high quality clock is by James Murray (1780-1847). It has a fine twin chain fusee hour striking movement, anchor escapement and trip hour repeat.

The pendulum holdfast to the back plate is signed James Murray, Royal Exchange, London.

This clock features a beautiful silvered dial and brass hands. The clock face has black Roman numerals and is also marked with the maker's details.

The clock case has three windows of beveled glass, both sides and one to the back, revealing the mechanism.

~ James Murray ~

James Murray was a watch and chronometer maker of great repute, and active in London between circa 1810 and the 1840s.

He was born in 1780 and gained his Freedom of the Clockmakers' Company in 1815, was elevated to the Livery in 1817 and is thought to have worked until his death in 1847. He is perhaps best known as a maker of marine chronometers and other precision timekeepers; James Weddell took three chronometers supplied by Murray on his third Antarctic expedition 1822-4.

His clocks were consistently of the highest quality and amongst the finest of the period.

~ Dimensions ~

The clock stands at 18.2 inches (46.4 cm). It measures 12.2 inches (31 cm) at the widest point on the base and is 7.1 inches (18cm) deep. This clock weighs 10.3 kg.

~ Condition ~

The clock is fine condition overall with only light wear to the wooden case.

There is one minor crack on the wooden frame of the glass on the left hand side and this glass panel has a few flea bite chips.

The mahogany has a wonderful glow.

The clock has recently been serviced. and is in good working order.
