A pleasant scene of a hazy summer evening around Portchester Castle,Hampshire.

This painting circa 1880 is signed to the bottom left corner WP for Will Parley.

Within the painting we see a couple, dressed in period costume walking along a pathway that winds around the castle along the shore. The couple have stopped momentarily to observe a local fisherman at work. To the background we see the magnificent form of Portchester castle surrounded by leafy trees.

The painting is a rather ornate gilt gold frame with carved acorns and leaves filling its entirety.

This painting was acquired from a local collection in Hampshire.

The painting measures 13.5 inches (34cm) by 11.5 inches (29cm). the frame measures 23 inches (59cm) by 21 inches (54cm). The piece weighs 4.34kg

~ Condition ~

The painting is in overall good condition. There is a build up of dirt to the surface but no major damages other than some slight crackling to the paint.

The frame is a solid period piece. There is some damage concentrated around the edges and corners.
