~ Circa 1900 German Wooden Horse & Cart Toy ~
A lovely wooden wheeled toy of a cart and horses made in Germany in the early 1900’s.
The set comprises of two horses on a base with wheels, a cart, a seat with driver figure, five barrels and a grain sack.
The pieces are all hand-made and hand-painted.
The cart has a rotating front axle and is attached to the horses via four strings. There may be something missing as it partly attaches but hangs low at
the front.
The seat is not attached and seems to work best when perched upon the red barrels.
~ Dimensions ~
The carriage measures30.5cm (12 inches) by 18cm (7 inches) with a height of 15cm (6 inches).
The horses measure 16.5cm (6 ½ inches) by 13cm (5 inches) with a height of 19cm (7 ½ inches).
The set has a total approximate length (when coupled) of 56cm (22 inches).
The set weighs 1.88Kg.
~ Condition ~
One horse is missing an ear and both the horses’ harnesses have parts missing. The figure is missing parts of his feet, one hand and the brim of his hat.
There is some general wear and tear, scratches and paintwork chips.
Overall the piece is in quite a good condition for its age and considering it’s probably been played with by children a lot.
