*Egyptian, 1882 Khedive’s Star Campaign Medal – Anglo-Egyptian War*

An authentic, original 1882 issue Khedive’s Star campaign medal. This five-pointed bronze star was instituted by Khedive Tewfik Pasha of Egypt to honor British and Allied forces who served in the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882. The obverse displays a highly detailed central roundel featuring the Sphinx of Giza with the Pyramids in the background. This center is encircled by the text "EGYPT 1882" and its Arabic equivalent reading "مصر ١٢٩٩" (Egypt 1299, referring to the Islamic Hijri calendar year) along the lower half, alongside the name of the ruler "الخديوي توفيق" (The Khedive Tewfik). The star is suspended from its distinctive laurel-scroll bar, fitted with a crescent moon and a five-pointed star. It comes complete with its original 37mm dark blue ribbon.

Historical Note:
The Khedive’s Star was authorized in October 1882 following the British intervention in Egypt. It was strictly awarded to military personnel who had already qualified for the silver British Egypt Medal. The 1882 dated star specifically recognizes those who participated in the initial campaign to suppress the Urabi Revolt, including major actions such as the bombardment of Alexandria and the decisive Battle of Tel-el-Kebir. The medals were manufactured in England by Henry Jenkins & Sons of Birmingham.

*Condition*
The medal remains in very good contemporary condition and displays a beautiful, natural aged patina. The original chemically blackened lacquer has worn away over time from historic polishing, revealing a warm brassy-bronze tone underneath. The striking remains crisp, with clean lettering and sharp definition on the Sphinx and Pyramids. The hanging loop, crescent mount, and laurel bar are structurally sound and firmly attached. The piece includes a genuine, stable, and correctly sized dark blue ribbon showing minimal wear.  Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
