A second edition copy of the book ‘Engineers And Their Triumphs (The Story Of The Locomotive-The Steamship-Bridge Building-Tunnel Making)’ by Frederic Morell Holmes.
This is the second edition of the book published by S.W. Partridge & Co. of London (the first having been published in 1894).
The book is illustrated and has the addition of plates.
It has a blue leather bound picture cover featuring Tower Bridge, with gilt title to front and spine.
On the inside of the front cover is a pasted in plate announcing that the book was awarded to a pupil of Grafton house school for good conduct in April of 1899.
~ Dimensions ~
The book measures 13.5cm (5 ¼ inches) by 19cm (7 ½ inches) and weighs 365g.
~ Condition ~
To the cover is a patch of light wear over the TR of triumph which has taken some of the gilt.
There is little light wear in parts to the edges but nothing significant
One of the images has been coloured in with watercolours. It has been done reasonably well and doesn’t affect the overall appearance of that particular page.
There is the odd spot of foxing (though very little) on some of the pages but a great deal of the books pages are clean.
There is foxing to the fore edge of the book.
