~ English c1830 Sunderland Garrison Ship’s Jug ~
The jug is purple with a splash lustre effect.
One side has an image of the Iron Bridge of Sunderland, with text that reads:
“West view of the cast iron bridge nea Sunderland
Built by R.Burdon Esa Span 236ft height 100 feet
Foundation stone laid September 24th 1793”
The reverse side shows a sailor and his family and reads “The Sailor’s Farewell”.
Under the spout is an image of a merchant ship titled “A Fair Wind”.
All three transfers are in black and highlighted with blue and green coloured glazes.
~ Dimensions ~
The jug measures 10 inches (25cm) from spout to handlein with a height of 8.5 inches (21.5cm), with a main body diameter of 7 inches (18cm).
The jug weighs 1kg.
~ Condition ~
The spout is chipped and cracked, the surface is slightly worn but the jug is in otherwise good condition.
