Description

*German, WW2, 81 cm High Explosive (HE) Mortar Round, for the 8 cm Granatwerfer 34 (8 cm GrW 34), dated 1943, with Waffenampt Stamps. Inert*

A rare World War II German 81cm high-explosive mortar round from the 8 cm Granatwerfer 34 (8 cm GrW 34), the standard heavy mortar used by the German military. Renowned for its precision and rapid firing capability, the mortar was less effective when handled by inadequately trained crews. The weapon had a conventional design, disassembling into three parts (smooth bore barrel, bipod, and baseplate) for easy transport. It featured a traversing handwheel, a cross-leveling handwheel, and a panoramic sight on the bipod for adjustments, while a line on the tube facilitated rough laying.

Dated 1943 the cast iron mortar body retains some of its worn red painted finish and has cast into it round the top "PJU, 23E PLT 11" and is fitted with a black bakelite impact fuse which is stamped "WGR ZT blw 43 (1943 date) 68 Waffenampt WaA634". The tail fins are made of pressed steel spot welded to the body and retain some of their original red painted finish.

Projectile marked: "Wgr Z1, blw 43, Waffenamt stamp (unclear) WaA634, 68"

Body indistinctly marked
"PJU, 23E PLT 11
1030 ZKB"

*Condition*

Good used condition with some original paint retained. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
