Good early quality example
A strong, original example of the Iron Cross 2nd Class, instituted on 1 September 1939 by Adolf Hitler as Germany’s primary combat decoration for bravery and leadership in the field. This cross features the classic three-piece construction with a magnetic iron core and silvered frame, confirming authentic wartime manufacture. The core retains its factory-applied black lacquer finish, with some age-related cracking on the reverse panel. The silver frame shows attractive, even patina with hints of rainbow toning, characteristic of genuine early-war silver content.
Unmarked ring – a common trait on early-period production – but exhibiting all the correct quality indicators: sharply beaded border, correct “1939” date block, and well-executed swastika motif. Suspended from its correctly-patterned red-white-black ribbon.

Historical Note:
Awarded to recognise battlefield merit below the level required for the Iron Cross 1st Class, the EK2 was worn in the buttonhole on its ribbon on parade and as a ribbon bar on daily service tunics. Early, better-quality examples such as this are increasingly sought after, particularly when magnetic and in original, untouched condition.

Very good wartime condition overall. Frame with honest wear and patina; core with stable finish crackling to reverse. No signs of repair. Ribbon clean with strong colour. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
