Description

*German, WW2 M42 Heer Helmet – qvl, Slate, Single Decal, Original Liner & Marked Chinstrap*

This is an original German M42 helmet, introduced in 1942 as a simplified version of the M35 and M40 models. The raw-edge design distinguishes the M42, eliminating the rolled rim of earlier variants. It features a single German Army decal, depicting the eagle clutching a swastika—an element phased out in 1943 to streamline production and reduce visibility in combat.

Maker & Lot Number: Stamped qvl66 559(3) (the last number is indistinct)
Chinstrap: Stamped RB Nr. 0/0390/0204 – a late-war issue code
Color: Slate
Liner: ZSH (zinc-plated steel band) with original sheepskin media
Decal: Single Heer (Army) decal on the left side

The helmet bears a "qvl" manufacturer code, believed to be from a factory in occupied Czechoslovakia (possibly Brno), active from around 1944. The exact maker remains unidentified, but these helmets are thought to be associated with the Thale facility, using its steel stock and stamping dies, "qvl" examples are found in the low 5000–6000 lot number range (mirroring Thales Lot numbers at the same time), typically finished in slate with no decals—making this single-decal example notably uncommon.

Includes the original liner and RB-numbered chinstrap, making it a desirable piece for collectors of late-war German militaria.
