*German, WW2, SS Long Service Cross Pattern*

An SS long service cross-form award bearing the raised reverse inscription “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE IN DER SS” (“For Faithful Service in the SS”). The piece is executed in the form of a gilt-finished swastika cross with centrally mounted SS runes within an oakleaf wreath, following the general style of the higher-grade SS long service awards introduced in 1938.

The reverse retains clear raised lettering together with SS runes positioned beneath the inscription. The central oakleaf wreath assembly appears incomplete and shows visible disturbance around the mounting points, suggesting possible historic repair, alteration, or reattachment. Verdigris corrosion is present around the centre fittings. The upper suspension loop and ribbon fitting are absent.

Approx. Measurements – 4 cm x 4 cm.

History Note:
The SS Long Service Awards (SS-Dienstauszeichnungen) were instituted on 30 January 1938 and awarded for loyal and uninterrupted service within the SS organisation. Lower grades for 4 and 8 years’ service took the form of circular medals, while the higher grades adopted the distinctive swastika-cross design. The 12-year grade was produced in a silvered finish, while the considerably rarer 25-year award was gilt-finished. All grades featured the inscription “Für Treue Dienste in der SS” to the reverse and were designed under the supervision of SS artist and designer Professor Karl Diebitsch.

*Condition*
Displays age-related surface wear, oxidation, and tarnishing throughout. The upper suspension loop and ribbon fitting are missing. The central oakleaf wreath assembly appears incomplete and shows evidence of possible historic repair or alteration, with verdigris corrosion visible around the fixing points.
