~ Givejoy Toys Skybirds 1/72nd Scale Aircraft Sopwith TF.2 Salamander No.5D Made 1935-42 ~
The model was constructed from a Givejoy Toys 1/72nd scale aircraft number 5D kit, part of the Skybirds series, the kit was issued between 1935 and 1945.
The hand constructed and painted model was constructed by the original vendor as a boy (between July 1935 & January 1942).
The wooden model is extremely detailed.
The set is complete with the original instructions.
Quite an amazing example of early model making.
~ Sopwith TF.2 Salamander ~
The Sopwith TF.2 Salamander was a British ground-attack aircraft of the First World War designed by the Sopwith Aviation Company which first flew in April 1918.
It was a single-engined, single-seat biplane based on the Sopwith Snipe fighter but with an armored forward fuselage to protect the pilot and fuel system from ground fire during low level operations.
It was ordered in large numbers for the Royal Air Force, but the war ended before the type could enter squadron service, although two were in France in October 1918.

The plane has a length of 3.5 inches (9 cm), a wingspan of 5.15 inches (13 cm) and a height of 1.5 inches (4 cm). It weighs 15 g.
