Description

*Imperial German, WW1, DWM P08 Luger 9mm Pistol, Dated 1917, Matching Numbers, Imperial Proofs, Old Spec Deactivated*

An original Imperial German P08 Luger semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm, the chamber dated 1917 and manufactured by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) during the First World War.

The pistol retains matching serial number 887 with suffix letter (appears to be e) stamped to the frame, barrel, and small components, with the exception of the safety lever which is numbered 91. All visible numbered parts otherwise correspond correctly, including the barrel and forward frame, consistent with wartime arsenal assembly and later service replacement of minor components.

Imperial inspection and acceptance marks are present to the barrel and receiver, including the correct crowned Gothic letter proofs associated with WW1 military production. The finish shows typical wartime machining and military blue consistent with a service pistol rather than commercial production.

The pistol is deactivated to old UK specification and retains full moving toggle, trigger, and magazine release, making it an excellent display example.

Approx. Measurements – Overall length: 22 cm. Barrel length: 10 cm.

History Note:
The P08 Luger was the standard sidearm of the Imperial German Army during the First World War, manufactured in large numbers by DWM and Erfurt. By 1917 production had reached peak wartime output, with pistols assembled in numbered blocks using suffix letters after each run of 10,000 pistols. Serial number 887 with suffix letter "e" falls within the normal 1917 production range and is entirely consistent with DWM wartime manufacture. It was common for minor parts such as safety levers to be replaced during service or arsenal refurbishment, and mismatched small components are frequently encountered on genuine military examples.

Old specification deactivated Lugers with matching numbers and clear Imperial proofs are increasingly sought after, as later deactivation standards often required internal cutting that removed much of the original mechanical function.

*Condition*
Good original condition with honest service wear throughout. Metal surfaces show age wear, light marking, and areas of thinning finish consistent with military use. All serial numbers visible match with the exception of the safety lever numbered 91. Proof marks clear. Deactivated to old UK specification with moving toggle and trigger. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
