Ships Masthead light with Fresnel lenses, these revolutionary lenses were invented in the 1820’s and are called the lenses that saved a million ships due to their effectiveness in lighthouse use. introduced in the 1800’s this meant the ships could be seen from much greater distances due to the magnification created.
This light still has the meteorite id plate with the serial/model No
*Condition*
As expected from a light that has had a working life at sea this item shows the patina and distress that is what gives it its character.
The centre of the lenses is exposed and there is some chipping to the lens edges this would benefit from some tape being introduced to cover the join, we did not apply this so the pictures show the join.
This has previously had electrical wiring and a light fitting is still present so it would not be difficult to renew this.
Our pictures form part of the condition report.
