Description

~ Late 18th Century Percussion Conversion Springed Bayonet Musket ~

A very interesting example of an early flintlock long musket converted into percussion and fitted with a very long spring bayonet.

It is quite clear that the barrel length has been reduced and the bayonet and the off-set ramming rod have been fitted back in the day, along with the very early (circa 1807-1810) percussion screw system.

The barrel was of a very good quality, with a hexagonal one third of its length and two cylindrical steps.

The trigger guard is made of brass decorated with a nice finial.

The Georgian proof marks can still be seen on the left side of the barrel.

The woodwork has been heavily cleaned over the years as it started to deteriorate.

It is a very unique firearm which might’ve been commissioned by either a big game hunter, who wanted the extra protection of a bayonet, or by a Sergeant or an Officer who wanted a light and very efficient piece of kit.

~ Condition ~

The musket is in fair condition for its age. Please observe the pictures.

The lock needs some attention as it doesn’t cock or fire.

The bayonet works as intended.
