~ Mid 19th Century Belgian Military Training Academy Shako ~
The shako has the Belgium cockade, gilt brass academy plate and a leather chin strap.
The visor has red leather under the visor. There is gold braid over the felt skull.
It is lined with a leather band and cloth interior. Under the crown, it is lined with newspaper and there is an applied label for a Brussels costumer so it was likely this piece was later repurposed for theatrical productions.
The Belgian Royal Military Academy was founded in 1834 and is their military university, responsible for training officers.
~ Condition ~
One of the strap bosses is absent. The shako is in otherwise sound shape though the gold braid has oxidised with age.
