The Model 17, commonly known as the “Eierhandgranate,” was a hand-thrown fragmentation grenade. Manufactured from 1917 onwards, it earned its name due to its unique egg-like shape, measuring approximately 60mm in height (10cm with fuse). Constructed from cast iron, it features a serrated outer surface designed to enhance fragmentation upon detonation. The Model 17 Egg Grenade played a significant role in the trench warfare of World War I and became an iconic symbol of the conflict.
This particular grenade comes with its original fuse which can be easily removed. Part of the original markings is still present on the bottom.
