Description

*Pointer Dog Sculpture, Bronze on Quartz*

A finely cast bronze figure of a Pointer dog in a stalking pose, mounted on a polished rectangular quartz base. The sculpture captures the athletic musculature of the breed, with strong anatomical detailing to the ribs, haunches, and coat texture. The Pointer is shown in mid-stride with head lowered and tail outstretched, a classic hunting stance.

The bronze has developed a dark patina with subtle highlights from handling and age, while the quartz base displays attractive swirling patterns in warm caramel and honey tones. The underside is finished with green baize.

Base measures: 20.3 cm x 6.2 cm x 2.5 cm. Total height (including base): 11 cm

Historical Note:
Bronze animal sculptures such as this were popular in the early to mid-20th century, particularly in continental Europe, where hunting scenes and working dogs were favoured decorative subjects. The Pointer breed, with its distinctive “pointing” stance, was often chosen by sculptors as a symbol of field sports, discipline, and natural instinct. Sculptures mounted on quartz or marble bases were commonly produced as decorative desk or mantel pieces in the interwar and post-war periods.

*Condition*
Good overall condition. The bronze shows light surface wear and small handling marks consistent with age. The quartz base has minor edge nibbles. The baize lining underneath shows some wear and loss in places. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
