~ Portrait Miniature Brooch Of An English Civil War Cavalier ~
A superb quality portrait miniature in brooch form of an unidentified 17th century Cavalier, painted in the 19th century.
The gentleman is an English Civil war era Royalist (or Cavalier). He is a presumably a man of some importance but as of yet we have not been able to identify him.
He is portrayed in typical period dress wearing a brown coat with red sash and ruff and sporting a wide brimmed black hat with white
feathers.
He also wears his hair long with a goatee type beard, a typical style of the era.
The portrait is painted in enamel on what appears to be a hard paste. It is mounted in a brooch type silver frame with a pin clasp to
the reverse.
There are no marks to the portrait nor to the silver.
~ Dimensions ~
The piece measures 5.5cm x 6.6cm.
It weighs 36.7g.
~ Condition ~
The portrait is in a really nice condition with no wear or damages. The frame has a nick to the lower edge but is otherwise in good
order.
There is a chip to the paste back but this in no way affects the portrait.
