~ Rare Circa 1830 British Officers Horse Guards Cuirass Armour Set ~
A great quality original cuirass (breastplate and back-plate) set in the ‘Napoleonic’ pattern.
The cuirass is of steel with brass edges and studs.
It has hinged leather backed brass shoulder scales with patterned steel stud work and with raised lion head boss clasps to each end.
The cuirass has red Morocco leather lining with velvet edging. The leather lining is embossed with the initials ‘AVM’.
It dates to the 1830/40’s.
~ Dimensions ~
The breastplate measures 13 ½ inches (34cm) across the chest and 16 ½ inches (42cm) from top to bottom.
The backplate measures 14 inches (35.5cm) by 16 inches (40.5cm).
~ Condition ~
The piece is in fine condition. The steel has some slight oxidation and a few marks. The leather lining and velvet edging have some wear as to be expected from a piece that has been previously used. The shoulder scales are in good order and the hinges work well.
