*Rare WW1 German Butchers Bayonet by CITO, c1915 , with Metal Scabbard*

The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post WW1. Fullered 36.5cm "butchers" blade. The rare German makers name: CITO on the ricasso. CITO was a registered trademark of Ernst Pack & Sohn who were cutlery wholesalers and distributors in Solingen, founded in 1909. They only made some M 98/05 bayonets in 1915 and 1916. There is no cypher and no date which is usual for this maker. Excellent blued finished pommel, flash guard, crossguard and quillon. Two German inspection markings to the pommel. Excellent ribbed wooden grips with oil hole. T-O slot in pommel. Metal scabbard marked Waffenfarik, Mauser A.G. Oberndorf a.N - the all steel scabbard first came into use in 1915.

*Condition*
Significant age related wear and tear to the blade, both edges are nicked and there is tarnishing to the blade. The grip is in good condition with age related wear and tear and working mortice button. The scabbard fits snugly and also shows signs of active use with some denting.
