Description

~ Royal Navy 1902 Pattern Boarding Cutlass By Mole ~

The cutlass is of all-steel construction, including the ribbed grips, which still retain part of the original black paint.

The guard has the slightly flared lip characteristic of the 1902 pattern cutlass.

The ricasso is stamped '02' for the production year and 'Mole' for the manufacturer.

There are a couple of inspection stamps on the blade's spine.

There is no scabbard, indicating it was stored on board in a ship's rack.

~ 1902 Pattern Cutlass ~

A "1902 pattern cutlass" refers to the British 1889 pattern Royal Navy Cutlass with a production date of 1902. It is a specific variation of the 1889 pattern, sometimes still used for ceremonial purposes even after being phased out of frontline combat use by 1936.

The 1889 pattern, and its 1902 dated examples, replaced earlier models like the 1845 Pattern, which was a response to the need for a more versatile weapon that could be used in both close-quarters shipboard combat and land campaigns.

~ Condition ~

Please refer to the images for the condition.

~ Dimensions ~

The cutlass is 92cm (36 inches) in total length with a 78cm (30.5 inches) blade.
