    Description

~ Scrolling Oak Leaf Majolica Candle Holder ~

An attractive and functional Majolica household item.

A thickly glazed ceramic candle holder with a nice weight. It’s a well designed piece that is sturdy, stable and safe but is effortless to carry.

The base resembles a stylized oak leaf with a curling stem that acts as a handle. The candle holder itself sits upon the leaf and is shaped to resemble the cup of an acorn.

Majolica is a type of Victorian-era pottery that was made in England in imitation of the Italian Renaissance maiolica process and style. Originated by Minton & Co at the 1851 Great Exhibition, this type of lead-glazed earthenware proved to be very popular and was often made with designs based on rustic themes like our piece here .

    ~ Dimensions ~

The candle holder is 4.5 inches (12 cm) deep.

The candle holder is 7 inches (18 cm) wide.

The candle holder is 3 inches (7 cm) tall.

    It weighs 275 grams.

    ~ Condition ~

This antique is in excellent condition, though it does have a few tiny faults from when it was fired, mostly were the glaze is thickest, at the base of the acorn cup (pictured).
