An original Cold War-era Soviet 45mm anti-tank gun round, dated 1959, comprising its correct brass cartridge case and armour-piercing solid shot projectile. This is a completely inert display piece, hollow and free from all explosive or energetic materials, ideal for collectors and display.

The round is of the standard 45×310R pattern, used with the well-known Soviet 45mm anti-tank guns including the M1937 (53-K) and later M1942 (M-42), as well as the 20-K tank gun fitted to early Soviet armoured vehicles.

Importantly, this is the correct 45mm calibre example—often misidentified as 37mm or 57mm based on proportions, making properly identified examples more desirable to collectors.

The projectile is of solid armour-piercing construction, finished in black, and fitted with a copper driving band displaying the characteristic coarse serrated pattern of Soviet manufacture. The ogival nose and absence of a fuze cavity confirm its AP role.

The brass cartridge case is of correct long bottlenecked form and retains its original spent (struck) primer, confirming it is inert and safe for display. The base is clearly marked “59г” indicating manufacture in 1959, along with factory and lot codes including “184” and “104”, and additional inspection stamps consistent with Soviet arsenal production.

Approx. Measurements – Case length: 31 cm. Overall length: 45.5 cm. Base diameter: 5.6 cm.

History Note:
Although originally developed during the Second World War, the Soviet 45mm anti-tank system remained in reserve and secondary use into the Cold War period, with ammunition such as this produced well into the 1950s for training and stockpiling purposes.

Condition
Condition is good for display, with age-related wear and loss to the black finish on the projectile and a natural patina to the brass case. The projectile is removable, and the case retains its inert spent primer. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
