*U.S., WW2, Navy MK-2 Legitimus, Collins & Co Machete, Dated 1944, with 1970 dated Sheath*

In 1826, two brothers named Samuel Watkinson Collins (age 24) and David Collins (age 21), along with their wealthy cousin William Wells, bought an old gristmill by the Farmington River in South Canton. They wanted to make top-quality axes. Eventually, their company, Collins Company, expanded its product line. They started making not just axes, but also machetes, hatchets, adzes, brush hooks, picks, shovels, knives, swords, bayonets, and plows.

Today, it's hard to find these long machetes. This one by Collins & Co. of Hartford, Connecticut, is a LEGITIMUS model long jungle machete. The machete is impressive, measuring 22 inches (56cm) in total length, with a straight 17inch (43cm) blade shaped like a Bush/Collins machete. The blade is about 2⅛ inches (5.5cm)wide at its thickest point.The ricasso is nicely marked "U.S.N. MK-2, (the Collins Logo), Legitimus, Collins & Co, 1944". The green  webbing sheath is marked "R.R. War Arrow 1970"

*Condition*
The blade is in great condition showing very little signs of use though there is one nick to the edge. The black hard plastic grips are in good condition, with the expected wear of age, and all the rivets are solidly attached. The sheath is dated 1970 and is torn on one side and has been doodled on along the front. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
