~ Van Melle Shop Toffee Sweet Tin – Birmingham circa 1905–10 ~
The hinged lid depicts the Royal Coat of Arms. The front depicts a beautifully large selection of summer fruit . At the centre is a gold rimmed oval with brown stock and gold lettering that reads “Van Melle’s Toffees”.
~ Dimensions ~
The tin has a height of 11.5 inches (29.2 cm), a width of 11 inches (28 cm) & a depth of 7.5 inches (19.1 cm). It weighs 975 g.
~ Condition ~
The tin has a fair amount of age wear: A large amount of the paint has faded, particularly towards the reverse where the art has become almost completely worn. There is light corrosion.
